What to Do When You Get a Flat Tyre in Dubai

A flat tyre can happen without warning, whether you are leaving home, parked at work or driving across Dubai. The safest response is to slow down, avoid sudden steering and stop somewhere away from moving traffic. Do not continue driving on a completely flat tyre unless you must move a very short distance to escape immediate danger. Driving farther can damage the tyre, wheel and suspension.

Move to a safe position

Switch on your hazard lights, reduce speed gradually and look for a level, visible place to stop. If you are on a busy road, stay aware of traffic before opening a door. Use a warning triangle only when it is safe to place one. Passengers should wait away from moving vehicles whenever possible.

Check what happened

Look for obvious signs such as a nail, screw, torn sidewall, damaged rim or a tyre that has separated from the wheel. Do not pull an object out of the tread because it may be slowing the air loss. A sidewall cut, bulge or tyre driven while flat normally needs replacement rather than a simple puncture repair.

Share the right information

A mobile tyre technician can prepare more accurately when you send:

  • Your live location and a nearby landmark
  • The vehicle make, model and year
  • The tyre size printed on the sidewall
  • Clear photos of the tyre, wheel and visible damage
  • Whether you have a usable spare wheel

Tyre size usually appears in a format such as 255/55 R19. If the marking is difficult to read, a photo of the whole sidewall is useful. For performance, luxury and four-wheel-drive vehicles, the speed rating, load rating and manufacturer specification may also matter.

Repair or replace?

A small puncture in the central tread area may be repairable after the tyre is removed and inspected. Damage close to the shoulder or sidewall, a large cut, internal damage or an unsafe tread depth usually means the tyre should be replaced. The final decision should be based on a proper inspection, not only what can be seen from outside.
